Letter from the President - June 2010 Update

Janice Pic 2010

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter.  Your attention shows that you are an interested and involved member of this association. Perhaps you are not a member, but interested nonetheless? Join today at cmsa-atlanta.org.  If you were fortunate enough to attend the chapter meeting on May 11, you were treated to a fabulous speaker as well as a bit of CMSA-Atlanta history.  In celebration of our 18th anniversary as a CMSA chapter, we were able to gather many of our past presidents to have an opportunity to honor and thank them for their work in growing this chapter and making us a premier chapter in the country.  We are so appreciative of your service to this organization.

Past President Picture

Your chapter board has been very busy with a number of activities.  CMSA-Atlanta sent two representatives to Washington DC in April.  Pat McCutchen and Susan Dunn participated in the CMSA Public Policy initiative.  Pat and Susan were able to attend a two day workshop to receive education of the legislative process.  They were also able to meet with members of Congress from GA.  Chapters from all over the country were in attendance at the same time to make a presence to the federal elected officials from their states with regards to case management’s role in healthcare reform.  Pat and Susan are also involved with assessing the ability of our State to support and enact the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) here in GA.  Susan and Pat will provide an update at the next chapter meeting on July 13, 2010.

Our annual conference is scheduled for October 8-9, 2010 at the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC), which is located near the airport.  We will have the same schedule as last year with a ½ day on Friday, and a full day on Saturday.  Ten hours of ce credit are being applied for with CCMC and NASW-GA and if approved, you will receive 10 hours if you attend all sessions on both days. You should be receiving a “Save the Date” postcard within the next few weeks.  Please mark your calendars.  By July or so, all registration information will be online as well as your ability to pay for the conference.  Information for sponsors and exhibitors is available online now under the Conference 2010 tab. There will be a link to the hotel on the website as well so that you can click it and make your hotel reservations at the same time. We are using the brand new Marriott which is connected to the GICC.  There is a small train connecting the two- it is the new rental car train that leaves from the airport.

We have had the ability to register and pay for chapter meetings online for about nine months now and we encourage everyone to register online. There is no charge for members to attend chapter meetings, but you still must register.  If you are not a member, you may register and pay online.  We have added this feature in order to make registration as convenient for you as possible.  We would like to make our website easy, as well as comprehensive, so that you may obtain any information you may need about your chapter.  If you have recently joined or renewed your CMSA membership, your name may not yet appear on our rolls as a current member.  To avoid any confusion, please make sure you have your CMSA membership card with you.  If you have not received it yet, please bring along a copy of your paid receipt that you will print when you join/renew.  Otherwise, you will be charged the $25 non-member fee for the chapter meeting.

Elections for 2011 board members will take place during the conference this year.  When you sign in on the day of the conference, you will receive a ballot to complete and return either on the 8th or the 9th.  You must be a member in order to vote and only members will be given ballots.  If you are interested in a board position, please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , and I will pass along your information to the nominations committee.  You must be a member to serve on the board, and have shown involvement in chapter activities to be considered.

We have a good representation of members from our chapter attending the CMSA National Conference in Orlando in June.

If you are going and would like company, contact me and we will make sure you are not alone. Our next chapter meeting will be held July 13, 2011 at the Atlanta Fish Market in Buckhead.  Seating will be limited, so make sure to RSVP early.  Again, the easiest way to register is to go the website: www.cmsa-atlanta.org and follow the prompts for chapter meeting registration.

As always, I look forward to hearing from you with any questions, comments, suggestions or complaints.  This chapter serves all of us and although we may have different needs at times, I want you to value your membership experience with your chapter.

Have a great summer and I hope to see you at the meeting on July 13.  We will not have another chapter meeting until September.  Also, make sure to make your plans to attend our annual conference in October.  The speaker committee outdid themselves and you will be thrilled with the presentations offered this year.

Respectfully submitted,

Janice Williams
